On Jan 22, William Ruto, President of Kenya, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project, being built by POWERCHINA. President Ruto personally unveiled the project's foundation stone, officially marking the commencement of the project.

President Ruto and his delegation conducted an on-site inspection of the key construction areas, gaining a detailed understanding of the project's main construction scope, progress, and anticipated economic and social benefits. He expressed his appreciation for the project's implementation and hope for future prospects.

In his subsequent speech, President Ruto thanked POWERCHINA for its extensive participation and support in Kenya's water resources and irrigation initiatives. He expressed hopes that the company will utilize its technical expertise to accelerate construction and ensure the project is completed to a high standard.

The Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project is located in Kenya's western grain production hub, its primary construction tasks include approximately 74 kilometers of irrigation canals, 31 km of drainage canals, and the leveling of 3,901 hectares of land.

Upon completion, it will directly benefit over 12,500 farming households in local counties, providing irrigation for over 11,000 acres (4,500 hectares) of agricultural land. It is expected to significantly enhance regional agricultural irrigation and production capacity while boosting local employment and household incomes.
