On Feb 13, the No 5 Haymans Pump Station of the Barbados Water Infrastructure Project, undertaken by POWERCHINA, completed all renovation and restoration work and was handed over to the Barbados Water Authority.
The project commenced on Feb 19, 2024, and has a 15-month contract period. The main scope includes installing generators, controlling turbidity, and renovating and reconstructing pump stations and water tanks at 11 sites, including Bowmanston, Cave Hill, and Pool Gully.
The Haymans site restoration work was complex, with more than 40 additional changes introduced during construction. Despite uncertainties in the scope of work significantly increasing the pressure on the timeline, POWERCHINA scientifically coordinated the construction schedule, strengthened communication, and efficiently advanced the restoration. It completed all tasks with high quality and smoothly handed over the site.
This project marks a breakthrough for Chinese enterprises in Barbados. As a vital infrastructure project, it will significantly alleviate the island nation's freshwater storage and purification pressures.
