A POWERCHINA representative is presented with Laos' "National Second-Class Labor Medal".
The second phase of the Nam Ou River Hydropower Project, invested and constructed by POWERCHINA, was awarded Laos' "National Second-Class Labor Medal" on March 5, in recognition of the project's outstanding achievements in promoting Laos' economy and strengthening friendship between China and Laos.
The Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines held the award ceremony on behalf of the central government. In 2021, the project's first phase was awarded the "National Labor Medal".
Phoxay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines of Laos, attended the ceremony to present the award to the project representatives. On behalf of the Lao Party and government, he expressed gratitude to POWERCHINA and all the builders involved.
In his speech, he emphasized that the project is essential for Laos' strategy to transform from a landlocked country to a land-linked one. It delivers clean energy to Laos, creates numerous jobs, improves people's livelihoods, and actively contributes to local economic and social development.
The project, located in northern Laos' Luang Prabang and Phongsaly provinces, consists of seven cascade power stations. The installed capacity is 1,272 megawatts, and all stations were put into operation by September 2021.
The project has generated over 18.3 billion kilowatt-hours, becoming a backbone power source for the northern Laos power grid and providing solid support for Laos' electricity supply.
