POWERCHINA completes Nepal New Butwal project

Updated: March 19,2025

POWERCHINA's Nepal New Butwal project recently received its completion certificate from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The New Butwal transmission line operates at 220 kilovolts with a double-circuit, double-bundle conductor system. Spanning 55 steel towers, it connects Sunwal and Bardaghat, key commercial towns in Nawalparasi District.

NEA director Kul Man Ghising stated that this line will significantly enhance the voltage stability and reliability of Nepal's east-west 220 kV transmission backbone. It will also facilitate hydropower transmission from the western region and lay a solid foundation for expanding Nepal's electricity trade with neighboring countries and regions.

POWERCHINA meticulously planned and managed operations, overcoming challenges such as complex mountainous terrain, prolonged monsoon rains, and multiple crossings. By ensuring high-quality, high-standard, and on-time grid connection, this project marks another milestone in China-Nepal power cooperation.
