Employees celebrate the successful installation of all 133 wind turbines for the wind power project.
The final blade of turbine WA419 was connected to its hub on April 8, marking the successful installation of all 133 wind turbines for the 600 MW Monsoon Wind Power Project in Laos, undertaken by POWERCHINA. This major construction milestone lays a solid foundation for the project's full-capacity grid connection and hand-over.
Since construction began in March 2023, POWERCHINA has overcome numerous challenges through early planning, precise coordination, and the detailed scheduling of equipment transport and installation. It also adopted BIM digital simulation technology to predict risks and optimize workflows. The safe, high-quality, and efficient installation of all 133 turbines sets a technical benchmark for mountain wind power development in Southeast Asia.
Located in Sekong and Attapeu provinces in southern Laos, the wind power project is Laos' first and Southeast Asia's largest single wind power project. It is also Asia's first cross-border power transmission new energy project.
With a total installed capacity of 600 MW, the project includes 133 wind turbines rated at 4.5 MW each, a booster station, and a 500 kV transmission line. The project is currently 96 percent complete, with Zones I and II (66 turbines) already having passed grid connection tests and 72-hour reliability operations with the Vietnamese grid as of April 2.
The project not only aids Laos in its renewable energy efforts but also provides employment for a significant number of locals and boosts the regional economy, showcasing POWERCHINA's strength in delivering international new energy projects.
