The Bambeto Roundabout Interchange Project, constructed by POWERCHINA in Conakry, Guinea, is poised to revolutionize the city's traffic dynamics.
This modern, three-level interchange, the first of its kind in the country, is distinguished by its striking yellow and white design and is scheduled to open by the end of May.
Located at a critical junction in Conakry, the interchange addresses a notorious traffic bottleneck. Preliminary surveys conducted by the project team revealed that daily traffic at this intersection exceeded its intended capacity threefold, resulting in severe congestion during peak hours and causing considerable inconvenience to commuters.
The interchange is expected to greatly alleviate this congestion. Project Manager Gong Qiaoqi said that the design incorporates an overpass, a ground-level roundabout, and an underpass. These elements address three major traffic challenges: facilitating smoother city entry and exit, enhancing cross-regional connectivity, and ensuring rapid access to the airport.
This interchange is pivotal for improving traffic conditions in Conakry and has attracted significant attention from the Guinean government. In July 2024, Guinea's Prime Minister, Mamadou Oury Bah, attended the inauguration of the interchange's underpass and praised the project's progress.
Since its inception, the project team utilized advanced construction techniques, ensuring steady progress while adhering to stringent safety and quality standards.
