POWERCHINA has achieved a significant milestone with the successful production of high-purity hydrogen at its first overseas green hydrogen project in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The project, developed in collaboration with ACWA Power, is the first of its kind in the area and plays a crucial role in Uzbekistan's "Green Energy Strategy". The project is equipped with four state-of-the-art electrolyzer systems, boasting a total installed capacity of 20 MW and capable of producing up to 4,000 standard cubic meters of high-purity hydrogen per hour.

It is expected to generate over 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually.

The project's four alkaline electrolyzers completed a series of critical tests, including system electrification, current ramp-up, gas separation and purity testing, venting tests, and emergency shutdown procedures.

Both the main and auxiliary systems operated smoothly, achieving a hydrogen purity rate of 99.99 percent. The successful startup and full-load operation of all electrolyzers underscore the technological advancement and operational reliability of the hydrogen production system.

In early June, Mohammad Abunayyan, chairman of ACWA Power, visited the project site and praised its progress, emphasizing its importance as a pivotal milestone for the country's green hydrogen industry.

The project will support Uzbekistan's energy optimization and carbon neutrality goals and set a technical benchmark and construction model for developing a green hydrogen economy in Central Asia.
