Construction on the Indonesia Lumbut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant is completed.

The Indonesia Lumbut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant, built by POWERCHINA through an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, received its completion certificate on July 16.

This certificate signifies the successful completion of the project's construction phase and the transition to comprehensive operational performance testing and verification phase.

This project represents the first time a flash steam geothermal power plant EPC project has ever been carried out by a Chinese company.

The plant boasts a capacity of 55 MW and will be crucial for the Indonesian government to achieve its goal of adding 5.2 GW of geothermal power generation capacity by 2034, with renewable energy accounting for 76 percent of new installed power generation capacity.

The plant is crucial to alleviating pressure on the local power supply, driving the transition to green energy, and promoting regional economic and social development. It also contributes Chinese wisdom to Indonesia's sustainable development strategy.

The project team has carried out tasks including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the units. Noteworthy milestones such as site layout approval (SLO), commercial operation date (COD), and achieving 15-day reliable operation were all met within the project timeline.
