Vietnam Electricity issued commercial operation certificates on Aug 22 for Zones 3 and 4 of the 600 MW Monsoon Wind Power Project in Laos, which POWERCHINA constructed.

This milestone marks the project's full-capacity connection to the grid and its transition into commercial operations.

As the largest single-unit wind power project in Southeast Asia, this development provides substantial momentum to Laos' strategic vision of becoming the "Battery of Southeast Asia". It also establishes a new benchmark for regional green energy cooperation.

The project has attracted significant attention from the Lao government and key leaders. Notable figures, such as Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos and general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Sonexay Siphandone, Laos' Prime Minister, and vice-presidents Pany Yathotou and Bounthong Chitmany, have successively conducted inspection visits to the site to monitor progress.

They have assessed the project's construction, technical solutions, and socio-economic benefits, commending its adherence to international quality management standards, which has played a positive role in driving local employment and economic development.

POWERCHINA navigated numerous challenges, including complex geological and topographical conditions, biodiversity protection, long-distance logistics, cross the rainy season construction, and cross-border power grid integration.
