The Guayepo III Solar Plant in Colombia.
The Guayepo III Solar Plant in Colombia, built by POWERCHINA, connected its first power collection line to the grid on Aug 28.
This achievement marks a pivotal phase in the project's development and injects fresh momentum into the region's clean energy initiatives.
A ceremony celebrating this significant milestone took place on Sept 2, attended by Edwin Palma, minister of Colombia Energy and Mines, and Eduardo Verano, governor of Atlantico Department.
The facility, with an installed capacity of 79.65 MW peak and comprising three power collection lines, is a key component of Colombia's recent efforts to engage with the Belt and Road Initiative.
It plays a crucial role in the country's energy transition and sustainable development and is expected to generate approximately 183 million kWh of clean electricity annually, optimizing Colombia's energy structure and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, supporting the country's emission reduction and environmental goals.
The project team created over 600 jobs, with 79 percent of the workforce sourced from nearby communities, fostering a pool of skilled technical talent and boosting local economic and social development.
This initiative meets local electricity demands and enhances POWERCHINA's influence in Colombia's renewable energy sector, contributing to the country's journey toward energy transformation.
