The Mauriti Solar Complex in Brazil.
The Mauriti Solar Complex in Brazil, built by POWERCHINA, has commenced operations after receiving its commercial operation certificate. This marks a pivotal achievement in renewable energy collaboration between China and Brazil.
The solar complex, located in Mauriti City, Ceara State, in northeastern Brazil, features a total installed capacity of 425 MW. The solar complex includes nine SPVs, one 230kV booster station, and corresponding transmission lines.
Since construction began in 2023, the project team has navigated a variety of challenges, such as cross-border collaboration, multilingual communication, long-distance equipment transport, complex approval processes, and evolving market regulations.
The project was built in full compliance with Brazilian standards and regulations and highly localized, providing substantial social benefits to the area. It created over 2,000 jobs, enhancing the skills of the local workforce and contributing to economic development.
The project was financed through a diversified funding strategy. The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and the Northeast Bank of Brazil (BNB) provided green loans.
The solar complex is expected to generate 1 billion kWh of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 780,000 metric tons each year. This will contribute to Brazil's transition to green energy and strengthen economic and trade cooperation between China and Brazil.
As POWERCHINA's first large-scale solar project in Latin America, the solar complex represents a significant advancement in the company's global renewable energy portfolio.
