A groundbreaking ceremony is held for the Lusemfwa 27 MWp/20MWac PV Project.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sept 24 for the Lusemfwa 27 MWp/20MWac PV Project in Zambia, undertaken by POWERCHINA.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Hon. Makozo Chikote, Zambia's Minister of Energy, Mwabashike Nkulukusa, Minister of Central Province, and Tian Hongjun, a representative of POWERCHINA.
Chikote highlighted that this project will integrate with existing hydropower facilities to establish Zambia's first hybrid solar-hydro power station, which will connect to the national grid.
He emphasized that this initiative represents a significant step toward diversifying Zambia's energy infrastructure, crucial for the Kapiri Mposhi district and essential for fostering a cleaner, stronger, and more secure energy future for the country.
Amid a hydropower crisis exacerbated by droughts and climate change, the project aims to bolster the country's electricity supply, support agricultural irrigation, and boost food production.
Nkulukusa highlighted that the project marks a significant milestone in boosting the energy capacity of Central Province and reaffirmed the provincial government's continued support for its progress.
Tian emphasized the project's crucial role in optimizing Zambia's energy structure and promoting sustainable development. POWERCHINA is committed to upholding high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety, ensuring the project is completed on schedule while meeting all environmental protection requirements.
