The Jafurah Desalination and Water Distribution System Project provides vital infrastructure to eastern Saudi Arabia's unconventional gas field.
At 20:38 on Oct 21, the first stream of clear water flowed from the pipeline, marking the successful start of water production at the Jafurah Desalination and Water Distribution System Project in Saudi Arabia, constructed by POWERCHINA.
The successful launch of this project confirms the overall compatibility and stability of the system equipment, representing a major breakthrough for the core process system.
To ensure the project's successful operation, POWERCHINA's project team had been promoting construction organization, equipment installation, and system commissioning since the start of construction.
Facing multiple challenges such as high temperatures, sandstorms, tight construction schedules, and multiple cross-operations, all personnel strictly adhered to three control goals: safety, quality, and progress.
In the final construction stage before pre-water production, all departments worked together to clean, pressure test, and functionally verify the pipelines of each system, ensuring that each indicator met the commissioning requirements.
During equipment installation and commissioning, the project team overcame delivery delays and coordination challenges by simultaneously installing and verifying equipment, which significantly improved efficiency.
The Jafurah Desalination and Water Distribution System Project, a key infrastructure investment by Saudi Aramco in eastern Saudi Arabia's unconventional gas field, utilizes advanced reverse osmosis to produce 80,000 cubic meters of water daily.
Upon completion, the project will provide a reliable freshwater source for the Jafurah gas field, strengthening Saudi Arabia's energy sector and fostering Sino-Saudi cooperation.
The project department will now focus on system testing performance, finalizing operations, and completing the remaining construction to a high standard, with the goal of quickly transitioning to commercial operation.
