The 600MW Monsoon Wind Power Project, constructed by POWERCHINA, starts commercial operation.
The commercial operation ceremony of the 600MW Monsoon Wind Power Project, constructed by POWERCHINA, was held on Nov 28 in Vientiane, Laos.
As Laos' first wind power project, the largest single wind farm in Southeast Asia, and Asia's first cross-border transmission new energy project, the project faced a series of formidable challenges, including rugged terrain, seasonal weather constraints, and the complexity of coordinating a cross-border industrial supply chain.
Located in the mountainous southern region of Laos, the project required transporting 84-meter blades through narrow and winding routes spanning China, Thailand, and Laos. The project site includes ecologically sensitive areas with stringent environmental requirements, and the local weak grid infrastructure necessitated the simultaneous construction of a substation and cross-border transmission lines to meet full-capacity power delivery needs.
Facing these daunting tasks, POWERCHINA's project team strengthened overall coordination, optimized construction organization, and enhanced cross-border collaboration efficiency, achieving full-capacity operation through relentless efforts.
As a landmark project in regional green energy cooperation, the 600MW Monsoon Wind Power Project will supply stable, clean electricity to the Vietnam's power grid. Its commencement marks a major step toward advancing regional clean-energy interconnection and supports Laos in realizing its vision of becoming the "Battery of Southeast Asia".
POWERCHINA will continue to uphold its commitment to meticulous execution and excellence, maintain high standards of quality and safety, and further enhance operations and management to ensure the project's long-term, stable, and efficient performance.
