The Metu-Mahsa Power Grid Upgrade and Expansion Project is expected to provide a stable supply of energy in the local area.

The Metu-Mahsa Power Grid Upgrade and Expansion Project in Ethiopia, built by POWERCHINA, passed its final inspection and was put into operation on Dec 5.

This project is a key part of Ethiopia's national power grid upgrade plan and had been prioritized by the local government since its commencement. The main construction work included two 230kV substations and 69.3 kilometers of 230kV transmission lines.

During the construction period, the project team took effective measures to overcome numerous challenges, including long rainy seasons, heavy rainfall, limited transportation, and logistical difficulties, ensuring the project's steady progress.

Faced with environmental and cultural differences, the project team prioritized localization in key areas such as personnel hiring, construction, and operation. Through systematic training, they built a professional local team, achieving a localization rate of over 95 percent for line construction and management personnel.

With their language and cultural advantages, the local team resolved various complex issues, minimized misunderstandings and conflicts, and contributed to the smooth progress of the project.

The completion of this project demonstrates POWERCHINA's outstanding technical capabilities and localization expertise. The operation of the project has also enhanced the power transmission capacity and stability of the region, providing reliable energy support for local industrial development and improvement of livelihoods.
