Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic delivers a speech at the construction site.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, accompanied by Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Minister of Transport, Mayor of Belgrade, and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming, visited the New Sava River Bridge Project in the center of Belgrade on Dec 25 and delivered a speech at the construction site.
President Vucic received a detailed progress report on the project, and focused on mine-clearance risks and the protective measures in place. He praised the project management team for their professionalism and strong sense of responsibility, stating, "Belgrade is not only the capital of all Serbian citizens, but also an important center for the entire region. The New Sava River Bridge, situated at the intersection of the old and new urban areas, will undoubtedly become a symbol of national and ethnic strength."
President Vucic particularly thanked the local and Chinese enterprises participating in the construction, noting that the new bridge would promote Belgrade's economic development. He added that he expected the bridge to become a prominent landmark of the city's skyline, enhancing the beauty of Belgrade's riverside with a stunning new vista.
The New Sava River Bridge Project includes demolishing the existing bridge and constructing a new five-span steel arch bridge with a main span of 166 meters. The new bridge design combines functionality and aesthetics, with a bidirectional tram lane in the middle and motor vehicle lanes, pedestrian paths, and bicycle lanes on both sides.
Demolition of the old bridge is now largely complete, and the first batch of steel components for the new bridge has arrived on site. The project team will proceed with a scientifically planned construction approach to ensure high-quality project execution.
