The Suez Wind Energy 1.1 GW Wind Power Project is expected to boost Egypt's green and low-carbon socioeconomic development.

The first turbine of the Suez Wind Energy 1.1 GW Wind Power Project in Egypt, constructed by POWERCHINA, was installed on Dec 30, 2025. This milestone marks an pivotal advancement in Egypt's new energy development and across the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as well, and adds another landmark to POWERCHINA's track records of overseas wind power projects.

During construction, POWERCHINA's project team were confronted with multiple challenges, including extreme heat and aridity in desert conditions, frequent sandstorms, and complex cross-border logistics coordination. With extensive experience and technical expertise in overseas wind projects, they overcame all the challenges posed by harsh on-site conditions, long-distance equipment transport, and compliance with international standards, ensuring the safe and efficient installation of the first turbine.

In the preparation phase, the team conducted advanced planning and specialized reviews, coordinated domestic and international resources, and ensured the timely arrival of wind turbine components and lifting equipment. With previous experience from the completed Amunet 500 MW Wind Power Project in the Gulf of Suez, they enhanced meteorological monitoring, optimized operational windows, and implemented wind and sand protection measures.

By meticulously managing every stage of the turbine lifting process, the team completed the installation without any accidents or damage, all while staying on schedule. This milestone marks the project's transition into a new construction phase, paving the way for upcoming turbine installations and grid connection.

The Suez Wind Energy 1.1 GW Wind Power Project is POWERCHINA's first gigawatt-scale onshore wind power project as a full engineering, procurement, and construction contractor in the MENA region, comprising 138 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW.

Once completed, the project will help optimize Egypt's energy system, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and promote green, low-carbon socioeconomic development, becoming a vital step in advancing green energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. The project team will continue advancing construction to the highest standards of quality and efficiency, ensuring timely commercial operation.
