Vietnam Electricity Corporation signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) turnkey contract for the Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant Project with a joint venture comprising POWERCHINA and Lilama on Feb 9.

A landmark project under Vietnam's Eighth National Power Development Plan, it currently ranks as the largest LNG power generation project in the country and marks POWERCHINA's largest LNG power project to date in Southeast Asia, signifying a historic breakthrough in POWERCHINA's entry into Vietnam's gas power market.

Based in Phu Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, the project will utilize H-class gas turbine technology with a total installed capacity of 1,612.8MW. Once operational, it is expected to deliver approximately 10 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national grid, enough to meet the yearly power demand of one million households. The project will play a pivotal role in advancing Vietnam's energy transition from a coal-dominated mix to one centered on natural gas and renewable energy.

Chen Guanfu, deputy general manager of POWERCHINA, attended the signing ceremony and delivered a speech on behalf of the contractor. He stated that POWERCHINA will mobilize its full industrial chain resources and dispatch elite teams to build the project into a benchmark facility in Vietnam with the highest standards, demonstrating China's advanced capabilities in clean energy technology.

This collaboration not only marks a new starting point for upgraded energy cooperation between China and Vietnam but will also inject strong momentum into regional clean energy transformation, energy security, and sustainable economic development.
