The Catac Road Maintenance Project aims to bolster local transportation infrastructure.
POWERCHINA's Catac Road Maintenance Project in Peru passed its final evaluation and was handed over on Feb 25, marking the full completion of the project. This is POWERCHINA's first road maintenance project in Peru.
Upon completion, it will improve local residents' travel conditions, enhance regional network efficiency and transportation safety, reduce logistics costs, and provide sustained momentum for socioeconomic development and livelihood improvements along the route.
The road is located in Bolognesi Province of the Ancash Region, stretching 78.4 kilometers through high-altitude mountainous terrain at elevations ranging from 3,000 to 4,100 meters above sea level. As a periodic road maintenance project, the main construction tasks included subgrade granular material backfilling, existing pavement recycling, emulsified asphalt stabilization, hot-mix asphalt concrete paving, drainage ditch and culvert construction, and the addition of road signs and markings.
During construction, the project team overcame challenges such as high altitude and low atmospheric pressure, large day-night temperature differences, and continuous rainfall during the rainy season.
By optimizing construction planning, strengthening resource coordination, and adopting a “weather-based, segmented advancement” approach, the team effectively managed site operations. Environmentally friendly technologies such as cold in-place recycling were applied, embedding low-carbon principles throughout the construction process and ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
The handover of the project provides strong support for the upgrading of Peru's infrastructure and further strengthens POWERCHINA's reputation and brand presence in Peru's transportation infrastructure sector.
The project's implementation has provided valuable experience for deepening practical cooperation between China and Peru in infrastructure and lays a solid foundation for expanding collaboration to higher levels and broader fields.
