POWERCHINA's project team prepares Unit 1 gas turbine for installation at the 3,000 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant Project.
The Unit 1 gas turbine has arrived on site at the 3,000 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant Project in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and is now ready for installation. Constructed by POWERCHINA, this is the largest gas-fired captive power plant project in Africa. Once operational, it will provide support for the local energy supply and help drive regional socioeconomic development.
Located within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone in southeastern Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, the project includes the installation and commissioning of 12 gas turbines, six steam turbines, 12 heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and associated auxiliary facilities.
This project is a cornerstone of Nigeria's national power reform and industrial energy autonomy strategy. It serves as a vital solution to the country's energy bottlenecks and a catalyst for industrialization.
Upon completion, the project will provide a stable power supply for heavy industries such as petrochemicals and fertilizers. It will also facilitate the transformation of the local energy structure and satisfy the electricity demands of both industrial tenants and residents within the free trade zone, reversing longstanding regional power shortages.
It provides a replicable blueprint for large-scale energy projects across West Africa, supporting Nigeria's shift toward cleaner energy and deepening energy cooperation between China and Nigeria.
