POWERCHINA and Petrobras signed the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for EPC lot 6, 8, and 10 of the UFN-III Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant Project on June 25. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.
Located in Três Lagoas, the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, the project is a flagship initiative under Brazil's New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC). It represents a critical step forward in Brazil's efforts to drive re-industrialization, safeguard food security, and enhance supply chain resilience.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2029, the plant is designed to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of urea and 700,000 metric tons of anhydrous ammonia annually. Once completed, it will boost Brazil's domestic fertilizer supply, reduce its reliance on imports, and provide robust support for agricultural production and food security.
During the construction phase, the project is expected to create around 8,000 jobs and stimulate local equipment manufacturing, logistics, and related industries, playing a vital role in regional economic growth and industrial upgrades.
This signing marks a major breakthrough for POWERCHINA in Brazil's petrochemical sector. It also represents the company's first fertilizer plant project globally to incorporate core processing technologies, further expanding its footprint in the industrial plant market.
