POWERCHINA enters wire stringing phase on Zambian power grid project

The project is a key piece of infrastructure for improving Zambia's national grid.

The 330kV Lusaka West-Kabwe Transmission Line Project in Zambia, built by POWERCHINA, recently completed all preliminary preparations for conductor and ground wire stringing and commenced wire-pulling operations. This marks the project's transition into a critical construction phase.

This current wire-stringing section spans a total of 4.5 kilometers, traversing several farms, seasonal rivers, and gullies. The construction environment is complex and constrained by tough terrain.

To make the most of the construction window during the dry season, the project management team coordinated the schedule and optimized the workflow. Priority was given to stringing wires in key areas heavily impacted by the rainy season, such as swamps and low-lying, flood-prone zones. By avoiding the risks associated with wet-weather operations, the team minimized potential delays and equipment downtime, ensuring full control over safety, quality, and progress.

Spanning Zambia's Lusaka and Central provinces, the Lusaka West–Kabwe 330kV Transmission Line Project is a key infrastructure and public welfare initiative aimed at enhancing the country's national backbone grid.

Once operational, it will boost power transmission capacity and grid stability in Lusaka, Kabwe, and surrounding regions. Furthermore, it will strengthen interconnection between the two provinces, delivering a stable, high-quality, and reliable electricity supply to support local industrial, mining, and residential needs.
