The project is Zambia's first to combine solar power generation with hydropower regulation.
The Lunsemfwa 27 MWp/20MWac PV Project in Zambia, built by POWERCHINA, recently obtained its taking-over certificate, marking the successful completion of construction. The project is expected to play an important role in optimizing Zambia's national energy structure and promoting renewable energy development.
Located in Zambia's Central Province, the project has an installed capacity of 27 MW. It includes a supporting 33kV-to-66kV step-up substation and two approximately 1-kilometer-long 66kV transmission lines.
By fully utilizing the existing infrastructure of a hydroelectric power station, the project combines solar power generation with hydropower regulation. It is the first new energy project in Zambia to be built using a hydro-solar complementary model.
Throughout the project's design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, POWERCHINA's project team allocated personnel, equipment, and materials, optimized construction plans and workflow coordination, and ensured every stage met strict quality standards.
As a result, the project achieved grid connection 26 days ahead of schedule, earning high praise from the project owner and other stakeholders for its proactive execution and high-quality delivery.
The handover of the project further consolidates POWERCHINA's brand influence in the Zambian energy market and provides a model for the country as it explores the integrated development of traditional hydropower and new energy.
