The Ituango Hydropower Project in Colombia, built by POWERCHINA, recently completed construction of the tailrace surge chamber's concrete frame 18 days ahead of schedule. This marks a breakthrough in the construction of the Ituango Hydropower Station, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent installation of electromechanical equipment, system debugging, and the overall handover of the project.
The Ituango Hydropower Station is a flagship project for clean energy cooperation between China and Colombia. With a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW, it is the largest hydropower station under construction in the Americas. Once completed, the project will meet 12 percent of Colombia's national electricity demand.
The early completion of the tailrace surge chamber's main frame demonstrates POWERCHINA's technical strength and organizational management capabilities in handling complex underground water conservancy engineering challenges, tackling difficult processes, and coordinating critical nodes, creating favorable conditions for subsequent construction operations.
