Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan attended the opening ceremony of the Dar es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase II Project, built by POWERCHINA, announcing the project's entry into service on Aug 7.
Hassan attended an on-site briefing about the project's construction and took a BRT bus ride to see its operation firsthand. She emphasized that this project is a vital public welfare initiative, aiming to significantly enhance urban public transportation, ease long-standing traffic congestion, and boost daily commuting efficiency for residents, marking a major step forward in upgrading the city's overall public transit system.
Hassan mentioned that the government plans to keep boosting investment to expand Dar es Salaam's BRT network, so more citizens will have access to convenient and efficient public transportation.
As a vital piece of urban transit infrastructure in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's largest city, the project integrates with BRT Phase I. Its launch further completes Dar es Salaam's urban public transport network, improving travel efficiency between Mbagala, areas along the route, and the city center. The project is expected to improve commuting conditions, alleviate traffic pressure, and drive economic and social development along the route.
