The 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit was held from Aug 30 to Sept 3 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. POWERCHINA, as a leading enterprise serving the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, has upheld the "Shanghai Spirit" and executed more than 200 projects across nine SCO member states.
Across sectors such as energy, power, and infrastructure, these projects have upgraded local energy supply and transport networks while delivering tangible benefits to local residents and advancing pragmatic cooperation within the SCO.
Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart Road Rehabilitation Project, Kyrgyzstan
This highway serves as a vital transport artery connecting China and Kyrgyzstan. Before rehabilitation, severe deterioration hindered local travel and economic development. Utilizing advanced management practices, POWERCHINA restored approximately 220 kilometers of the road. The project earned high praise from the client and multiple written commendations from the local government, creating a durable bridge of friendship between China and Kyrgyzstan.
Tarbela Fourth Hydropower Extension Project, Pakistan
A key energy initiative in Pakistan, this project transformed irrigation tunnel No 4 into a power generation tunnel and added three 470 MW Francis turbine units. The upgrade expanded the plant's total installed capacity from 3.48 GW to 4.89 GW. Since entering operation, the station has delivered over 3 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, easing national power shortages and providing a major boost to economic growth.
Zhanatas Wind Power Plant Project, Kazakhstan
Located in Zhanatas, Zhambyl Region, this project consists of 40 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.5 MW. Generating approximately 350 million kWh of green electricity annually, it meets the power needs of around 1 million households. The facility saves roughly 110,000 metric tons of standard coal per year while substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ash waste, helping relieve power supply pressures in southern Kazakhstan.
Three school construction aid projects, Tajikistan
POWERCHINA has funded and constructed three modern primary schools located in Bokhtar, Levakant, and Danghara, all designed and built to Tajik national standards. Equipped with power supply, lighting, water supply and drainage, fire alarms, heating and ventilation, security monitoring, telecommunications, and outdoor access roads, these fully appointed schools accommodate nearly 1,300 Tajik students.
Navoi Solar PV Power Project, Uzbekistan
As Uzbekistan's first solar photovoltaic power station, this plant spans 267 hectares and features nearly 300,000 solar panels. Generating 278 million kWh annually, it provides sustainable energy for the region's growing population and expanding industrial base. Compared to a natural gas power plant of equivalent capacity, it saves 80 million cubic meters of natural gas each year and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 160 metric tons, serving as a landmark model for energy development and environmental protection in the country.
