Kafue Gorge Lower hydropower station is located in Zambia, 90 km away from Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. The installed capacity of Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station is 750 MW with reservoir capacity of 83 million cubic meters. The main structures and construction scope include: roller compacted concrete dam), headrace tunnel, powerhouse township, subsidiary 330kV transmission lines and other auxiliary facilities.Sinohydro is contractor of this project, and the consortium of Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co.,Ltd and POWERCHINA Northwest Engineering Corporation Ltd. undertake the project.The project started on January 15th, 2016.On November 18th, 2020, the dam impoundment work was completed, laying the foundation for the power generation of the first unit.
After the completion of the project, Zambia's power supply and demand will reach a balance, which will greatly promote the social and economic growth of Zambia and the improvement of living standards of Zambian people.The power shortage in Zambia will become history.
