Soubre Hydropower Station is located in southwest of Cote d’lvoire, which is the core project of the national energy balance strategy of Cote d’lvoire. It is acclaimed as Three Gorges Project of Cote d’lvoire, and the operation model serves replaceable “Lighthouse” effect in West Africa. The power station has a total installed capacity of 275MW, with three units of 90 MW francis turbine and one unit of 5 MW bulb turbine miniature, the total storage capacity is 83million cubic meters. The total investment of the project is 572 million US dollars, which could generate electricity 1190GWh per year. Sinohydro Bureau 5 Co., Ltd. was responsible for EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) management, PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation Limited and PowerChina Sichuan Electric Power Design Institute participated in design and equipment supplies. The project included three parts: multipurpose project, transmission and transformation project and employer camp. The multipurpose project consists of power house, spillway and embankment dam with 4.5 kilometers, etc; the transmission and transformation project includes 380 kilometers lines and upgrade and reconstruction of mating transformer substation.
The project started in September 24th 2013, and completed in May 12th 2018. Due to its prominent contribution to Cote d’lvoire, the project won the honorary certificate of the Best Project Award in the energy area of Cote d’lvoire in 2018, China-cote d’lvoire Cooperation Development Award issued by Chinese Embassy in Cote d’lvoire for three times in 2015, 2017 and 2019 respectively, Power China High Quality Project Award and Luban Prize of China Construction Engineering（overseas project）in 2019.
