Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Nairobi-Thika Road (A2) is connecting Nairobi and Thika. The LOT2 bid section was constructed by PowerChina Municipal Construction Group Co., Ltd., with a total length of 14.1km,from Muthaiga to Kenyatta University. The contract price is about 140 million US dollars. The project was started on January 26th, 2009 and completed on July 24th, 2012. The construction period of the project is 30 months, with the warranty period of 24 months; the owner of the project is Kenya Highway Authority.

The main content of the project is to widen the existing 4-lane asphalt concrete pavement to 6 / 8-lane, at the same time, it also includes adding sidewalks, bicycle lanes, service roads, green landscape of central isolation belt, drainage system, road lighting system, traffic signal and road marking; buildings along the line include river crossing bridges, overpass bridges, underground passages, drainage culverts, etc.

The successful completion of the project has been affirmed and supported by the government and locals. It has greatly solved the problem of the north-south trunk road traffic jam of in Kenya. The project has won many awards within POWERCHINA, and won the 2012-2013 National Quality Engineering Award.
