China-Laos Railway (the newly built railway between Boten and Vientiane) starts from Boten, a border port between China and Laos, runs through Namtha province and Luang Prabang province in the northern Laos to the south, and ends at Vientiane. The total length of the China-Laos Railway is 414.3km, and the design speed is 160km/h, with the total investment of RMB 37.425 billion. The whole length of the IV section and the V section constructed by POWERCHINA are 74.88km and 90.03 km respectively.
China-Laos Railway is the "NO.1 Project" and is highly concerned by the Lao Government. The project is constructed by using Chinese Management Standards and Technical Standards, and is an electrified passenger and cargo mixed transportation railway. After the completion of the project, it will significantly improve the efficiency and level of local transportation, create a large number of job opportunities for Laos and greatly boost its social and economic development. The railway is connected with southwest China. It can also be connected with Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore railways in the future, to become a "steel silk road" and realize the transformation of Laos from a land-locked country to a land united country.
